MORE THAN A RESUME. A LIFETIME OF PREPARATION
DISCIPLINE LEARNED ON THE COURT, APPLIED IN THE COURTROOM.
Born and raised in Central Florida, Ross Smith learned the value of hard work and competition early. Growing up between Orlando and Tampa, he excelled as a multi-sport athlete, developing a particular passion for tennis and golf.
These weren’t just games; they were training grounds. The intense focus required to sink a putt under pressure or the stamina needed for a third-set tiebreaker taught him lessons he uses every day in law: preparation, patience, and absolute focus.
- 1991: Graduated Winter Haven High School
- 1997: B.A. Florida State University
- 1999: M.S. Sports Administration, Florida State University
A WORLDVIEW BROADENED BY EXPERIENCE.
Before entering the law, Ross sought to understand the world beyond the classroom. living and studying in Barcelona, Spain, he immersed himself in a different culture and language. This experience gave him a unique ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds—a critical skill for a judge who presides over a courtroom that serves everyone.
It was during his doctoral studies that Ross felt a new calling. He didn’t just want to study administration; he wanted to advocate for justice. He enrolled in Western Michigan University’s Thomas M. Cooley Law School, graduating in 2004 with a concentration in Litigation.
MADE IN MAHONING COUNTY.
Ross could have practiced law anywhere. He chose here.
In 2006, Ross planted his flag in Youngstown, opening the Smith Law Office. For 20 years, he has been more than just a lawyer; he has been a neighbor. He raised his family here, served alongside local organizations here, and shared in the same triumphs and challenges that every Mahoning Valley family faces.
He understands our community not because he reads about it, but because he lives it.
THE PROSECUTOR. THE DEFENDER. THE JUDGE WE NEED.
THE PROSECUTOR
As a Prosecuting Attorney, Ross served as the voice of the people. He fought to protect victims, hold criminals accountable, and ensure our streets were safe. He understands the weight of a victim’s pain and the necessity of law and order.
tHE dEFENSE
As a Defense Attorney, Ross has stood beside individuals in their most vulnerable moments. He has fought to ensure that the Constitution is not just a piece of paper, but a shield that protects the rights of every citizen. He knows that justice requires due process, not prejudgment.
READY FOR ANYTHING
Ross holds the unique distinction of being licensed to practice law in both Ohio and Pennsylvania. This dual licensure demonstrates a mastery of complex legal systems across state lines—a level of expertise that ensures he is ready for anything that comes before the Common Pleas Court.
READY TO SERVE.
I am not asking for this judgeship to start a career; I am asking for because I understand the importance of serving our community. I promise to run a courtroom that is efficient, respectful, and above all, fair. When you walk through my doors, you will know that the law—and only the law—is in charge.
